Two Bimbos began over several rounds of martinis in the Lower East Side; longtime friends Nancy Pop and Lita Lofton met for drinks in Winter 2021 to talk about “making a play”. Lofton, an accomplished director and performance artist, and Pop, an award-winning filmmaker and actress, wanted to invite theater lovers of their generation into a curated space catered for them in the post-pandemic landscape: something sexy and affordable with plenty of alcohol and photo ops.

The two set out to begin developing their first production titled TISMO (The Internet Stresses Me Out) written by acclaimed playwright Rebecca Kane. As they developed the show alongside executive producer Clare Stukel, the two began labeling their Google calendar invitations “Two Bimbos scam a bank” (setting up their company bank account) and “Two Bimbos successfully scam a bank” (with an appointment) and thought, maybe this could be like, a thing? Maybe we could like, do this for real? They decided to commit to the bit, forming Two Bimbos and throwing together this bitchy website. Their launch party at Top Quality in Long Island City was the start of the Bimbo cult, featuring mezcal margaritas and real (permanent) tattoos by Johnny, inked on dozens of devout followers throughout the five boroughs.

TISMO quickly sold out and was listed on Brooklyn Magazine as one of the “fun runs that make Brooklyn the greatest borough in New York.” Their second production But I Met You On TV took them into the wild west of Manhattan where they opened the show at the acclaimed TheaterLab NYC in Chelsea.

Their productions have been described as subversive hot idiocy, nebulous dives into social media hellscapes, and “super fun - loooooves!” Their approach to theatrical storytelling marries interactive multimedia elements with the zeitgeist of social media: sexy aesthetics, influencer culture, and digital anxiety. The Bimbos are rapidly developing an audience committed to the journey of reclaiming the Bimbo slur in the digital age.

Meet the Bimbos.

  • Nancy Pop | Actress & Producer

Nancy Pop is a Romanian-American actress, producer, and filmmaker based in New York. Her work often dissects the permeable moments between thriller and comedy, telling stories of intimacy and lesser explored truths with elements of camp.

Her films have screened across the globe throughout North America, London, Turkey, Paris, and Bucharest, winning several awards including “Best Feature” and “Best Comedy” for her directing work on the feature film, Poets Are The Destroyers. In addition to her narrative film work, Pop has produced a variety of commercials, stand up shows, writing workshops, poetry readings, and plays throughout her 9 years as a New York bimbo.

She received her BA in Theater Performance and Playwriting from Marymount Manhattan College. You may know her from YouTube or in Sephora stores for Amika’s “Bust Your Brass” campaign back when she was a peroxide blonde.

  • Lita Lofton | Director

Lita Lofton is a Brooklyn-based director and performance artist working to tell stories of metamorphoses and dreams made visceral.

Of Russian and African American heritage, Lofton’s work pulls on her fascination with the nebulous and undefined spaces; her artistic practices and aesthetic play with the dichotomies between sexy and scary, dream and reality, fairytale and nightmare, universe and void. She makes art with the goal of comforting while terrifying and always seeks to tell stories of her ancestors, both literal and metaphorical, and of the places that she comes from.

Lofton is the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Social Club Theatre and is currently exploring the ways in which we as storytellers can breathe new life and new stories into the performance community after two years of quiet and strange isolation.
